San Vito Lo Capo

Nestled on the beautiful beach that has made it famous around worldwide, San Vito Lo Capo, with its mild climate even in winter, is one of the most popular destinations in Western Sicily. It is located just a few kilometers from the renowned Zingaro Nature Reserve. The Mediterranean ambiance, the abundance of natural beauty, and the diverse cultural opportunities in the surroundings make San Vito Lo Capo the ideal destination for a seaside vacation with the entire family.

he heart of the town is Santuario Square, which overlooks Savoia Street. It is bustling with shops and venues, especially popular in the evening, serving as a favorite meeting spot for shopping and relaxation. Concerts and performances take place in the
square, and street artists also perform during the long, warm summer evenings. Meanwhile, young people gather at sunset in beach bars for enjoyable Happy Hours. The Sanctuary, whose history is rooted in the legend of Saint Vito the Martyr, is certainly worth a visit. Inside, there is the statue of the town's patron saint, a beautiful altar, and a small yet interesting Museum of Sacred Art. A very characteristic corner of San Vito Lo Capo is Via Venza, a tiny street located just a few steps from the Sanctuary, which in the summer becomes a cultural hub hosting one of the most cherished events by visitors: "Books, Authors and Bougainvilleas”. The long summer features a series of evening meetings with writers and journalists who share their latest works in a completely
relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

The architecture of the village is characterized by low, white houses; along the streets, fragrant jasmine fills the air, while large , colored doors on the older buildings once served to let carts pass. Some ancient farmhouses have been expertly restored, preserving all their charm, to create vacation apartments or B&Bs, while more modest homes have been transformed into numerous and welcoming Mediterranean-style spaces. The people of San Vito Lo Capo love greenery very much, and almost everyone personally takes care of the flowerbeds in front of their homes… a true celebration of roses, daisies, violets, hibiscus, and
bougainvillea that fill the air with fragrance and do not leave passersby indifferent.

But it is on the beautiful beach where everyone gathers, relaxing during the hottest hours of the day. A long strip of very fine sand, a sea with dazzling colors, shallow waters that are safe even for the little ones. San Vito Lo Capo is gem nestled between the impressive Monte Monaco and the rocky wall of the Piana dell’Egitarso, rivaling the finest Caribbean beaches. On the coastal road that runs alongside it, there are numerous restaurants and bars where you can comfortably enjoy a snack or lunch with a sea view, and where it is pleasant to return in the evening to meet friends.

The San Vito Lo Capo Lighthouse is romantic and enchanting, which with its beam of light illuminates the entire bay in the evening. It can be reached in just a few minutes on foot from the village center and is one of the iconic sites of this corner of paradise. Close
to the port, where the fishing boats and tourist vessels are located, you can admire the Torrazzo, a small tower of Arab origin, formerly used to defend the village, located in the midst of a green area dedicated to children.

Another building that is certainly worth a visit is Palazzo La Porta, which serves as the Municipality's new headquarters and was
constructed in the 19th century. Certain rooms still preserve the ancient ceramic tile floors, while the atrium is paved with local stone according to the architecture of the nineteenth century. Behind the palace, a wonderful garden hosts exhibitions and cultural events, including the Sicilia Ambiente Festival in the summer. For those who love to walk, there is no shortage of choices; numerous trails climb up the surrounding hills and through the two natural parks, the Zingaro Reserve and the Monte Cofano Reserve, offering a truly unique experience from both a naturalistic and landscape perspective. Thanks to the wonderful climate that San Vito Lo Capo enjoys almost all year round, it is possible to engage in outdoor sports activities even in spring and autumn. Indeed, for several years now, national and international events have been held in the area, such as the San Vito Climbing Festival, various triathlon competitions, the Equiraduno of the Valley of the Olives, and other outdoor events.

The most awaited event of the year remains the week dedicated to the Cous Cous Fest, which occurs annually at the end of September. A kermesse that has brought together people from all over the world around the traditional Arab dish since 1997.
A moment of great celebration in the name of peace among peoples. San Vito Lo Capo becomes, during these days, the cultural and gastronomic heart not only of Sicily but of the entire Mediterranean.

In a vacation in Sicily cannot lack the tasting experience... its excellent cuisine brings together and satisfies all tastes around its most famous dishes... the most exquisite desserts... and local products and wines of exceptional quality.
